Tiling Microscopy

Learn how ECHO systems deliver fast, beautiful, stitchless images

ECHO Applications

Tiling Imaging in Microscopy

Tiling, also called tile scanning or large-area imaging, allows researchers to capture a mosaic of adjacent fields of view that are automatically stitched into one seamless, high-resolution image. It is essential when a single field of view cannot capture the full extent of a sample: whole slides, tissue sections, organoid arrays, and multi-well plates all demand tiling to reveal the complete biological picture.

We’ve developed our microscopes to make tiling fast, intuitive, and frustration-free. The ECHO Revolution is our high-throughput widefield tiling platform supporting up to 4 slides, while the ECHO Confocal adds high sensitivity and minimal photobleaching (compared to point scanning systems) to the same seamless tiling workflow.

ECHO Makes Tiling Easy.

Researchers shouldn’t spend hours trying to produce a beautiful stitched image. Traditional microscopes cause issues at every numerous steps of a Tiling workflow. Here’s how ECHO changes that.

Take a Test Drive
ⓧ Long acquisition times

Traditional systems send tiles to offline software for stitching, forcing researchers to wait before they can even see their data.

ⓧ Visible stitching lines & artifacts

Mismatched illumination and poor tile registration leave ugly seams that compromise image quality and analysis.

ⓧ Steep learning curve

Most tiling systems require extensive training before a user can confidently set up, acquire, and process a tiled dataset.

ⓧ Slow software & large file lag

Opening massive tiled datasets in competing software can freeze programs and interrupt collaborative review sessions.

✓ Instant acquisition

ECHO stitches tiles in real time — the seamless image is ready the moment acquisition is complete, zero waiting.

✓ No stitching lines

ECHO's tile blending software produces a perfectly continuous mosaic every time — publication-ready out of the box.

✓ Software reduces learning curve

An intuitive interface walks users through tiling setup in minutes — ideal for core facilities and new lab members alike.

✓ Open huge datasets instantly

ECHO's software loads even massive tiled files dramatically faster than competing platforms — no freezes, no lag.

Hyperscan | High-Speed Image Stitching

Hyperscan enables ultra fast scanning and mosaic image stitching at high-speed camera frame rates in Brightfield and Fluorescence. High-Speed predictive focus tracking and real-time shading correction enable rapid and clear acquisitions.

Revolution and Confocal synchronize brushless linear servo motors with camera triggering for high-speed continuous scanning.

Scan your entire samples in seconds, then revisit areas of interest.

Leave stitch lines in the past.

Conventional tiling microscopy can leave visible stitch lines and illumination inconsistencies between tiles. These artifacts distract from the science and require additional multiple post processing steps to correct.

ECHO’s proprietary stitching engine blends tiles in real time, producing a continuous, uniform image the moment acquisition ends. This means no post-processing or seam lines. (Available with Revolution and ECHO Confocal)

Tiling's impact in Alzheimer's Research

The Hunsberger Lab uses the Revolution microscope for a wide range of projects in the lab.

With their interest in neurodegeneration, the lab examines brain regions, including the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, and amygdala, which become dysfunctional in disease.

Using the Revolution microscope, the team analyzes cell activation, measures differences between groups, and creates correlational heat maps between brain regions to determine network differences. Tiling helps create beautiful images for them to take deeper dives into.

Yes, we provide both virtual and in-person training for our customers. Additionally, every microscope is preloaded with our interactive iBooks manual. This is a great training tool for new lab members or as an easy refresher for existing users.

We have microscopy specialists globally available for technical questions, product demonstrations, and support. Please contact or chat us so we can help.

Yes, we offer both virtual and onsite product demonstrations of our microscopes. We follow CDC guidelines for masking and social distancing during our in-person demos. Please schedule a demo to schedule a demo for your lab.

Upright microscopes are only capable of viewing glass slides. Inverted microscopes are optimized to view live and fixed samples in well plates, dishes, and flasks. Our microscopes’ ability to easily convert from an upright to an inverted means that your microscope can be optimized for each sample.

Our microscopes are optimized to view samples and cells prepared on slides, well plates, petri dishes, flasks, and hemocytometers.

We work with Chroma Technologies and offer all the standard filters sets from UV to Cy7. We can also provide custom filter sets to fit your specific applications. Please contact or chat us.

We offer a 1-year warranty. We also offer extended warranty packages.

Software updates are free and easily installed through the App Store.
